Half Light Dance Project was created in 2019 by Emily Rapley and Lilly Giroux. The pair’s artistic outlook and diverse movement perspective elicit visually dynamic and meaningful performances. Half Light Dance Project exists to challenge and connect with the audience.

They are curious about their audiences’ thoughts and interpretations, and prioritize viewer accessibility. Emily and Lilly aim to encourage holistic understanding of the work while leaving room for individual experiences.

Half Light Dance Project has worked across Canada and the United States. Since their inception, they performed live at "Entwined Together", and virtually with Krisp Collective. Throughout the pandemic, they hosted online workshops taught by internationally acclaimed artists such as Erica Sobol, Alvin Collantes, David Norsworthy, and Kylie Thompson, and attended by dancers across the globe. Emily, Lilly, and their cast of dancers are currently deep in process for their first full length show that will be presented in Toronto in June 2023 at the Alumnae Theatre. Half Light is excited to continue to share their work with the community.

Lilly Giroux is a new generation, female, dance artist born and raised in Toronto. She is in a constant state of change and allows her art to reflect that. Throughout school Lilly trained in the Claude Watson Art Program, and after graduating high school, she furthered her education in Erica Sobol’s Gypsy Project (Los Angeles) , and the Sidra Bell Dance Module (New York City). She has had the privilege of training under Medhi Walerski, Jermaine Spivey, Adi Salant, and Tilman O’Donnell, and worked for many talented artists such as Christina Digiusseppe, Alvin Collantes, Rebecca Zizek, and Charles Moulton. Some notable performances include Fall for Dance North, Toronto Fringe Festival, and Common Ground Dance Festival. In 2019, Lilly co-founded Half Light Dance Project alongside Emily Rapley, debuting in 2020 at Entwined Together. Lilly is eager to continue to share her work with the community and is so excited for everyone to see ‘Re[Start]’.
